Dalai Lama comes to Vancouver

On October 23, Vancouver will host His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama, who give a very special teaching on wisdom and compassion on from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In the evening, an eclectic mix of well-known musicians will perform to raise money for Tibetan refugees.
"Benefest for Tibet" fuses together some of Canada's hottest acts for a musical experience that will satisfy a wide array of tastes. From rock to rap, electronic to fusion, there's a sound in the mix that pleases everyone. The concert takes place on October 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at UBC. Tickets are $25.
Performers include Juno award-winning singer/rapper K-os, Juno nominated Matt Brevner, Delhi 2 Dublin, The Zolas, The Funk Hunters, Polarize Prize nominated singer-songwriter Louise Burns, and Canadian freak-pop band Fake Shark – Real Zombie! Performers are all donating their talent for this event, and Light Organ records based out of Vancouver has offered half the acts from their label to support the cause.
Tibetan activist, filmmaker and musician Shenpenn Khymsar is producing this benefit concert. He came to Canada many years ago as a refugee. Benefest for Tibet is a joint presentation by the Tibetan Cultural Society of B.C., along with Monk & The Warrior Productions, and is sponsored by The Peak 102.7FM.
One hundred percent of the event proceeds will go to supporting the Vancouver chapter of the Tibetan Resettlement Project, a humanitarian initiative by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to resettle 1000 displaced Tibetans to Canada. The project reaches out to Tibetans living in the most impoverished refugee camps of Arunachal Pradesh, a region of northern India that borders Tibet.
